Humanistic hypnosis: 5 misconceptions
to leave behind
Loss of control, sleep, “I can’t be hypnotised”… Hypnosis still carries many images inherited from stage shows. Here is what really happens in a session.

The word “hypnosis” often brings to mind a stage, a pendulum and a person obeying without knowing it. The humanistic hypnosis practised in the Crystaluz Journey is very far from that: it is a natural state of relaxation and concentration, used to look at a difficulty differently and mobilise your own resources.
To help you form an accurate picture before you start, here are five misconceptions that are often heard, and what is really true.
1. “Under hypnosis, you lose control”
This is the most common fear, and it is unfounded. Throughout the session, you remain conscious: you hear everything, you can speak, open your eyes or stop at any time. Nothing is imposed on you: we work only on a goal we have defined together, in your own words.
2. “You sleep during the session”
Hypnosis is not sleep. It is a state close to daydreaming, which everyone already knows: when you are absorbed in a book, or driving along a familiar road without noticing the time pass. Many people are in fact surprised, at the end of a session, to remember almost everything.
3. “Some people can’t be hypnotised”
We all experience states close to hypnosis several times a day. The depth of relaxation varies from one person to another and from one session to another, and it is not what determines the quality of the work. What matters is your wish to explore the situation and the climate of trust in which the session takes place.
4. “The practitioner does the work for you”
This is precisely what sets the humanistic approach apart. Derived from Ericksonian hypnosis, it places your autonomy at the centre: I guide you, you explore. The work uses images, symbols and inner dialogue, drawing on what you already carry within you. You remain the agent of your own change.
5. “One session is enough to sort everything out”
For a specific goal — apprehension before public speaking, a habit you want to free yourself from — one to three sessions are often suggested, and we review things after the first one. For deeper questions, hypnosis is part of ongoing support: in the Crystaluz Journey, it can be combined with other tools, such as family constellations or flower essences, depending on what is right for you.
Useful to know
